Defibrillators – The First Heart Attack Device

0

Defibrillators are used in the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest, commonly referred to as a “heart attack”. These devices are designed to provide immediate treatment to patients with an imminent heart attack or irregular heartbeat by increasing their heart’s ability to pump blood. A defibrillator provides a low-level, low-amplitude electrical shock to the heart through the chest wall.

What is a defibrillator, and how does it work?

Cardiac defibrillators were first used in the United States during World War II, in order to provide temporary protection to soldiers who suffered from a shortage of oxygen while in battle. Today, this device is still used for the same purpose by both military and civilian personnel. A heart attack happens when the muscle contractions or a blood vessel is blocked.

Defibrillators have been around for quite some time now and have proven to be quite effective at saving people’s lives. However, they are only as effective as their users. Anyone can use these devices; it is just a matter of deciding whether or not they are capable of performing the job that they are intended to do. These devices are available in all sizes, shapes, and colors, so it should not be difficult for anyone to find a device that best suits his or her needs.
